Anne & the ShroudPhoto: Hanna Kanto

"I created a moment. It is a self-portrait with a forest. It is a photography studio without the photographer and without the camera. You can step into it.

A tree fell. I made a shroud for it.

For the exhibition, Roininen presents two pieces: one is a text and an installation you can step into, the other one is a large-scale photogram, a cyanotype on canvas. Both pieces consider questions about presence, relationship with nature and the ways of revealing meaning in photography. Anne Roininen’s work often comes into being in dialogues with others, and as a result the premises and roles of making and experiencing art become blurred. The work is frequently installed in open spaces, such as streets or fields, but they have also been seen in city and country sceneries, and occasionally in galleries. The medium of the work is not always fully determined and can therefore be presented as a photography, an installation, performance, or happenings."
